On 30 May Cooltsalon will unite for the third time several countries and cities in a one-day simultaneous exhibition and creative conference, ‘Cooltzine’; the third edition’s topic is Changes. Participating cities this year include Sofia, Belgrade, London, Vienna, Berlin and Paris with speakers joining relevant panel discussions, but without hosting venues due to reformatting of the event as purely digital, in line with the health and safety regulations surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic. Once again, the zine of the same name will also be available during this simultaneous international event. The associated self-publication is curated by Cooltsalon as an accessible exposure platform for creative practitioners at any career stage and the pages are created from Open call submissions.

Enabled by Cisco’s Webex platform, participants in each panel discussion will be connected in a live video transmission, and will be able to not only present but interact with each other and hear audience questions in real time. The “Urban Investigators” panel is aimed to bring the perspective of those dedicating their work to making the shared city a more wholesome experience, with applicable case studies. The “Curators” panel will bring together individuals with track record of managing cultural events, art shows or cross-sector exhibition opportunities, either independent or as representatives of organisations. The “screening” slots will offer the same short film across cities (screening times synchronised across different zones) – followed by conversations with their makers, as part of the “Creative Practitioners” panel. Audiences will be able join the event via Webex ‘virtual room’ link published one day prior the event and activated half an hour before the first scheduled panel.

UK-based speakers include: Dee Haughney, curator at London’s October Gallery, Darren Emerson, VR projects creator, co-founder of East City Films and a regular contributor to think tanks & VR labs, presenting Common Ground as case study, and Olivia Bellas, culture and community engagement consultant, and researcher, who has led on events with the City Hall, UCLH and Open City Docs among others; filmmaker Chris Penty will join the “Creative Practitioners” panel, following the screening of his psychogeographic essay Canal (11 min, UK, 2019; Sheffield Doc/Fest Official 2019 Selection). Screenings also include Errance (5 min, France-Serbia) by Clement Bedel, French artist formerly based out in Belgrade, and a new video piece by Vienna-based artist Daria Tchapanova, made especially for the event, in response to this year’s topic of changes.
