Cooltzine #5 Urban Diaries

Free downloadable version of Cooltzine vol.5 available until 27 May “Cooltzine” vol.5 was born as a collectively curated content and narrative, built from loose pieces, connected together in pages made by each co-creator. Our biggest experiment in collaboration and co-authorship, this zine started with 50 individual files of our own, offered to the co-creators as building blocks. The individual files were a mix of works by our founder, which meant Cooltsalon had let go of the curatorial role – now the co-creators were to define content. The co-creators were asked to make a shared shortlist of files and use them…

Meet the Cooltzine vol.5 co-creators

“Cooltzine” vol.5, whose content and theme’s entirely defined by the participants, not Cooltsalon, is our biggest experiment in co-creation and co-authorship. The zine will be available on 12 May. Back in January 2022, we launched an Open Call for participation where the curator (Cooltsalon) became the creative contributor, and the co-creators (the confirmed participants) curated the content. We offered the participants 50 loose pieces – files of photos, illustrations, sketches – which they were to use as building blocks in their pages. Participants had the freedom to “remix” works, working with the source files but making alterations to them, putting multiple…

Cooltzine vol.5 – Open Call for Co-Creators

We invite you to co-create the 5th edition of Cooltsalon’s international zine, “Cooltzine” – but this time our roles are reversed! The curator (Cooltsalon) becomes the creative contributor, the co-creators (you) curate the content! ABOUT THE ZINE “Cooltzine” is Cooltsalon’s zine, born in 2018 and curated as an accessible exposure platform for both professional and amateur creative practitioners, at any career stage. We want it to serve as connecting point and as a shared tangible, material asset in a world of heavily digitised experiences. The pages are created from visual interpretations of a given annual topic set up in our…

Cooltzine vol.4 Open Call

Cooltsalon invites submissions for the 4th collaboratively created zine, “Cooltzine”, where each page is done by different creatives, professional or amateur, as visual interpretation to the 2021 theme, “Future Now”. Where 2020 presented a collective challenge and posed shifts in the established models, rendering future planning both obsolete and even more necessary than before, we ask what does “going forward” mean now? Can one build while in a state of flux? Or is it a state of suspense and waiting, while the present is the only mode available?  To participate in the “Cooltzine vol.4: Future Now” Open Call, download the…

Cooltzine project: going forward

We have all entered an unwritten chapter, but we’re in it together. When Cooltsalon grew as a platform and network, it was to strengthen collaboration, solidarity and unity, and to highlight how similar we are, in fact, from city to city, country to country. We: the creative practitioners, the curators, the researchers, the producers, the change-makers, the urban dwellers. We’re monitoring closely the updates surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on our industries, with the wish to have the planned conversations still take place on 30 May, and rolling out a fully online version seems very likely. The very concept of ‘Cooltzine’ is build upon digital interactions and…
