Cooltzine project: going forward

We have all entered an unwritten chapter, but we’re in it together. When Cooltsalon grew as a platform and network, it was to strengthen collaboration, solidarity and unity, and to highlight how similar we are, in fact, from city to city, country to country. We: the creative practitioners, the curators, the researchers, the producers, the change-makers, the urban dwellers. We’re monitoring closely the updates surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on our industries, with the wish to have the planned conversations still take place on 30 May, and rolling out a fully online version seems very likely. The very concept of ‘Cooltzine’ is build upon digital interactions and…

Cooltzine vol.2 available

UPDATE: Cooltzine #2 has been archived. Remaining print copies are still in circulation somewhere, keep your eyes peeled. A self-publication curated by Cooltsalon as an accessible exposure platform for creative practitioners at any career stage, the zine is Cooltsalon’s first tangible asset. The cycle of each edition is completed with 1-month availability as a downloadable file (free of charge), after which each volume is archived, never to be available again, unless shared by someone within the network. Each “Cooltzine” edition is deliberately limited in print run, encouraging exchange and DIY reproduction, sharing and copying material hand-to-hand, in the original zine…

Simultaneous Exhibition 2019: Sofia, Belgrade, London

On 18 May 2019, three cities will explore together the idea of a shared space by taking part in Cooltsalon’s international collaboration project, which manifests in a one-day exhibition event, happening simultaneously across 3 time zones. What is being exhibited is not just works of international creatives but, actually, the premises and line of business of each hosting partner: Stour Space (London), MOVE.BG (Sofia) and Papergirl Galerija Hub (Belgrade). All discussions and Q&A sessions will be conducted in ENGLISH. In times of political uncertainty across Europe and the UK, from unknown Brexit status to redefined borders, the 2019 edition explores…

Cooltzine

On 12 May 2018 Cooltsalon launched its very first “physical asset” – the ‘Cooltzine’ – a publication curated for international, visual dialogue between creative practitioners. The zine carries on the message of re-discovering the city, re-connecting to it and each other as urban dwellers, and is something tangible that can be collected, shared and referenced at any time. The specific brief for Cooltzine vol.1 was “Neglected spaces in YOUR city where you find inspiration”, attracting responses from different parts of the world, revealing stories and individual experiences through the means of photography, illustration and collage. The first Cooltzine edition is…

Creative Walks

One of Cooltsalon’s projects in 2015-2016 was series of “Creative Walks”: guided group walks through a specifically designed route that would introduce participants to lesser known spots (and the people running them) in a specific urban neighbourhood. The “Creative Walks” in Sofia had 3 editions: ‘Creative Walk – Lozenets’ (December 2015), ‘Creative Dog Walking’ feat. Doglar (January 2016) and ‘Creative Walk – Women’s Market’ (January 2016)

Cooltsalon at Amaro

Back in 2014, Cooltsalon put on the first site-specific programme of exhibitions, designed especially for an independent cafe-bar in Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia. Situated off the main shopping high street and away from the usual ‘going out’ routes of the city’s dwellers, Amaro baretto, albeit with great menu, needed something extra to pull in visitors. Cooltsalon came on board to curate three seasons of ‘Amaro Cooltsalon’, featuring works of the most exciting emerging photographers, artists, illustrators, designers, transformers and cultural change-makers. The series offered the makers an affordable platform for expression and the bar’s visitors an accessible way of interacting with…
