Cooltsalon now accepts submissions for vol.3 of the collaborative zine, “Cooltzine” – a self-publication curated by Cooltsalon as an accessible exposure platform for creative practitioners at any career stage – which is to be presented at the third simultaneous exhibition event in May 2020.
To apply, please download the following assets and email your responses to partycooltsalonbg@gmail.com by 14 January 2020.
The brief: Taking the ‘mother image’ (which you can download from the link above) as starting point, please offer a visual interpretation of the subject of “Changes”. Submissions are accepted in photo, illustration and text medium (or mix of all three), but you must work with the ‘mother image’ provided.
When talking about ‘Cooltzine’, we refer to both:
- the one-day event, taking place simultaneously across several cities and time zones,
and
- the collaborative zine, associated with the event

Cooltsalon doesn’t own a space, but we produce site-specific projects and events in collaboration with many wonderful collectives across the globe. In May 2018 Cooltsalon established a ‘glocal’ ideas exchange model: a one-day simultaneous exhibition, where several cities showcased the same works to different audiences.
The works came from submissions to a collaboratively created zine (“Cooltzine”); each participating city (hosting venue) then received the same exhibition assets for presentation and same zines for distribution, while contributors, hosts and attendees had the opportunity to tune into a live video stream, sneaking a peek into each other’s venues. For the second edition in May 2019, the one-day event expanded to incorporate live video panel discussions between participating cities, thus shifting the focus from the co-created zine (although, local audiences were still able to pick up copies on the day) to the shared experience of being a creative practitioner, locally and internationally. Supported by Cisco technologies, hosts and attendees were able to talk to each other in designated Q&A session slots; while each location also had an “offline” programme.
This is now an annual event, in an effort to shine light on socially active and culturally engaged establishments around the world, and as a reflection of our dedication to building connections between people and places.
